Knit Heaven.

There are two things I accomplished in 2010 that I am particularly proud of:

1. Teaching CBC how to use a computer
2. Learning how to KNIT!

These were serious accomplishments, particularly the first. I will delve into the amazing-ness that was tech 101 with CBC at a later date, to showcase and explain quotes like: "LAVINIA! I have LOST the mouse!! Now for the knitting bit..

Due to my interesting living arrangements, which I will not go into on the WWW, ha, I am sometimes required to vacate my apartment for short periods of time. During these "vacations" I retreat to my home away from home, my sister, LM's, couch (also a story for another time, LM and RM host a mean sleep over that usually involves ordering everything you have ever wanted to try from the Thai restaurant, all at once, and coffee to couch delivery in the morning).

A couple months ago, I arrive, and LM informs me that she has just learned to knit! Down I sat and about five minutes later she had taught me everything she knew (great teacher!). Realizing we were going to need more help-- her next knitting class was not for a week--she sent me down to her favorite knit shop, PURL, which, it turns out, is pretty much heaven on kn-earth ( knitting earth) ha.

Despite the fact that my first project closely resembled a spider web, my love for PURL and knitting was solidified. Each time I walk through her doors I am inspired and excited and relaxed all at the same time.

Not only do they have the most amazing collection of yarn-- they also display completed projects all around the shop-which are great inspiration. I made 'this' for CBC for Christmas- it was amazing and massive.

I imagine one day having either a closet-- or a yarn collection-- that is as well organized as the shelves at PURL.

BIG thanks to LM for teaching me to knit-- that week we spent on your couch-- "knitting and picking" was one of my favorites ever.
Love love love.

Sometimes I leave my wallet at home and let myself wander around the store for as long as I want...

  1. I love how the "Pixie Dust" yarn is described as "wool, mohair, and pixie sparkles" on their website! I am so jealous you live near there.
