HEART- Fucking Gorgeous.

My sister, LM, always looks like a freakin rock star- she has great style all around and her hair always looks a-mazing-- after moving to the city, I asked her where she got it cut. Enter, Heart, the unbelievable '80's hairstylist of my dreams.

Heart cuts hair in her basement, that is also home to her three legged mut-long haired chihuahua mix, Diego and three legged cat, Frankie. Apparently Diego was an impulse buy from the pet shop. Soon after his purchase it was discovered that he was dying from pneumonia, and spent the following month in the hospital in an oxygen chamber. Shortly after his recovery, he was stricken with a rare strain of rocky mountain yellow tick lime disease and was rehospitalized. After this recovery it seemed as if his luck would turn around, but unfortunately he was hit by a biker and lost his back leg. The dog has the worst luck.

The walls are painted a deep red and adorned with various incarnations of flaming heart artwork and pictures taken by Danny Clinch  (the photographer for John Varvatos 2011 Spring Collection) of Heart with iconic '80s rockers like Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop and Willie Nelson. Whether Heart is a rock star in her own right, or a hair dresser to the stars...I am not sure, but she sure looks the part and makes you look fucking fabulous. One leaves her basement looking like Joan Jett- in a good way. I think she gives everyone variations on the same layered 80's inspired haircut, but somehow it looks amazing every time.

An appointment with Heart is never just about the haircut-- she and her assistant are always chatting about some exciting drama. Today-- Heart has been helping this homeless woman in her neighborhood, keeping her things when she is wandering, giving her food and spare change etc, and was completely insulted and shocked when said homeless woman repaid her kindness by pinning a note on her door accusing her of stealing her cat. Heart was forced to confront her in the street this morning to express her indignation at being accused of such a terrible deed.
